Narrative

Artist Statement: Associate Professor Diane Willow is a multi-modal artist. Working at the nexus of art, technology, architecture and science, she experiments with hybrid media to explore the poetic dynamics of nature, technology and community. Her public installations, interactive environments and evocative objects involve media as eclectic as bioluminescent plankton, embedded computers, found sound and time-lapsed video. By any medium necessary best describes her process. Focused on art as experience, she invites people to engage in multi-sensory explorations as participants and choreographers rather than as viewers. Diane is interested in exploring the subtle ways that we express empathy with one another, with other life forms, with sensing objects, and with responsive environments. She is particularly interested in the ways that we develop and transform our sense of place and how this process is influenced by our contemporary views of nature, technology and community.
